Planes of existence. Stacked on top of each other, each one their own universe, but each one having less and less need of understanding of its rules.

While time travel by acquaintance with logical and illogical paradoxes can teach us the basics of causality, planes of existence will teach us more about

– being real,
– and about returning to reality,
-and about the cost of distancing apart from the real world we are all fleeing from,
– and about honour taking part in the needs of the real world,
– and dishonour… if you want to stay at an upper plane, as you block your original from… what, waking up…?

Nah, we haven’t really solved the mechanics of Planes of Existence yet, but Joan is Awful (2023) and Inception (2010), one very female and one very male film, give us options to remain in the now of unreality at the cost of better personas, but admonishes us to come back to necessary reality, where the waters are rising and the world is ending.

Can more become real? Time travel shows us fleeing to what if it wasn’t. Trusting in our genuine selves of IS is the hardest lesson. It is boring, life is boring and repetitive, and full of anxiety and broken everything, and nothing can be trusted, less if more people become more honest – they will leave and resign and change and not clean up and sleep and try to move closer to themselves without dying. Do you not see it yet? We all become more boring, as we progress closer to ourselves, leaving the more fictitious planes of existence behind.

That battle will not be easily won. We all have differently wired brains, but the majority finds it too easy to become real and believe they have the light (meaning imagination is not their talent), and others will find it estranging and stressful and hard to be even more frequently reminded that they are needed in the world, when all they want is just to be left alone (meaning they escape even further from the real than the majority).

A fiction plane of existence, where I am not here, an avatar is occupying a part of my attention, like right now as I am writing the present text – only the mosquitos calling me back to the terrasse. Here, I am at a higher level, and once that avatar at that level begins to shape my existence, it takes on an existence, a necessity, of its own. And the I here at this plane cannot know what happens, when someone reads the present text, the cat will have left the universe, and it might not come back. Not even the later I can fully know!

I need to repeat:

Once I fictionalise myself, outside of my mind’s inclusion of my body, I create a new level of existence. Not a new universe, universes are not needed to full size in order to exist and uphold my life at different planes; most existence, even beauty, or maybe even beauty exactly, consists of [place holders] and that is what we use our famed pattern recognition for: To not have to create a totally new universe every time we feel a need to flee. (Very similar to video compression algorithms – only saving that which changes.) Which is why the pre-made world-building of fiction can hook people so easily – nobody needs to work hard to uphold the logistics of fantasy and imagination; it’s already there for the taking.

I could be the writer and say:

SO, what if fantasy and imagination was HARD?

What if it was a talent lost or at risk of?

What if it was threatened by some nefarious force?

What if expressing it was illegal and punishable by death?

What if problem solving was the only fancy permitted?

What if The Body again was worshipped and the mind not?

But if I do not build upon the images of a smaller existence, no other plane of existence beyond the present accidental hardship of the real world is open to me. And if I do not even think it, only the present world exists – and as such almost not beyond what survival requires, beyond cognition; and only those silent are really safe from reproach; and problem solving only deals with

law and ideal,

healing the broken,

teaching the ignorant,

constructing the necessary,

seeking the world in itself (– rather than its fictional planes),

– as in approaching the real.

Is that good or bad?

The real world is what is damaged by our collective and individual ignorance, and we cannot repair it with fiction, only with real world solutions – even as, for effect, we may need to make the ignorant understand through fiction rather than violation and domination. Eg. a Holy Book of some kind…

For too long we have kept up the image of good and bad, never seeing that that also is a way for bad people to continue the ministrations and corruptions of everything, out of tune with real world needs. Stories of bad mask the real bad, not the other way round, as the innocents claim.

Literature does not make the world more visible, it makes it more complex and complicated, much more complicated to change – seeing the constant reminders of what could be, and what seems to be, and what is a memory of, and what is not good and what is ideal and how should people be rewarded and how punished, because literature is not of the world, but of civility. Of control of chaos. Of collectivity. Of similarity and unity and common goals to survival: Tools, fields, domestication, metals, electronics, programming logic, micro and macro observations passed on. We barely need the stories. But we need the problems, and explained to us. WE need problems. WE are united in problems. And thus in fictions. Planes of existence outside of anyone’s control… We can simply dream up someone, who can dream the right dreams in a controllable world, or dream things differently. As as such mask the problems we cause by doing so.

We the human world, chaos the rest.

If we live past a violent death, that existence is at the intersection between the real world and all the imagined planes of existence – and humans are trained by peers of the civilisation to not see this boundary, to trust in civilisation, to trust in order as it is laid out for us.

In order we trust. As we must.

—
I so often wonder, if I can be understood.
